What is Contact Tracing?
Information from the Ohio Department of Health
Contact tracing is the process of identifying people who were in contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19. The Ohio Department of Health views this effort as an important part of reopening the state.
How does contact tracing work?
If you feel sick:
- Your healthcare provider may order a COVID-19 test. You will need to isolate yourself at home until the results come back.
If you test negative:
- Contact tracing is not necessary.
If you test positive:
- You will be notified, along with the local health department and the Ohio Department of Health. You will continue to isolate at home.
- A public health worker will reach out to you to voluntarily create a line list of the people you have been in contact with. This will trace who has potentially been exposed to the virus.
- The public health worker will contact those you may have exposed. Those individuals will need to self-quarantine and monitor themselves for cough, fever, and shortness of breath. After 14 days without symptoms, their quarantine is lifted.
