National Consumer Protection Week – Expert Advice on Your Schedule

“Normal business hours” don’t work for everybody. We know some consumers have trouble finding time during the day to call consumer advice lines. 

So during National Consumer Protection Week (March 5-11), Cleveland-area consumer agencies are participating in evening and weekend events designed to get you expert advice --  on your schedule. 

Tuesday, March 7th

From 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, WKYC Channel 3 is hosting a consumer call-in. Experts will be on hand to share information on resolving complaints against businesses, reporting scams, untangling budget issues, dealing with Medicare issues and more. 

Agencies staffing phone lines include Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs, the Federal Trade Commission, the Ohio Attorney General, the Better Business Bureau, Apprisen (Consumer Credit Counseling), ProSeniors, the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, the FBI, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. 

Channel 3 will broadcast the call-in number during its evening newscasts March 7.

Thursday, March 9th

AARP is hosting a March 9 evening call-in event for its members. Cuyahoga County Consumer Affairs, the FTC and the BBB will answering calls, along with other agencies. 

Saturday, March 11th

People who need personalized legal advice can talk to a lawyer at Legal Aid’s Brief Advice Clinic. The clinic runs from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 11 at the Rice Branch of the Cleveland Public Library, 11535 Shaker Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44104. 


The Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs has investigators on staff to help consumers resolve complaints against businesses and to investigate scams. Through our county-wide Scam Squad, we work with state, local and federal partners to combat scams. 

Our office is officially open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, but you can file a complaint with us anytime it’s convenient for you by using the “File a Complaint” or “Report a Scam” form posted at
