Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister and social activist who led the civil rights movement in the United States. Dr. King is remembered for his non-violent protests against segregation and his “I Have a Dream” speech.

Dr. King made frequent trips to Cuyahoga County and Cleveland from 1956 through 1967 during his career as a civil-rights leader, raised funds for organizations such as the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, urged voter registration and participation, and bolstered the local nonviolent civil-rights movement.
