Description of Board and Responsibilities:

The role of the Board of a not-for-profit Area Agency on Aging is to provide oversight and support to ensure the effective and efficient management of the organization. The Board is responsible to many constituencies in the five-county area and is directly accountable to the Ohio Department on Aging to ensure that federal and state funds are spent in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, and policy. The Board is responsible for setting policy within the context of federal and state policy and for employing competent staff to carry out this policy, as well as other Area Agency functions.

Qualifications:

Total Board membership must include at a minimum:

  • Private Sector Executive (business) - University-based Gerontologist 
  • Social Work - Legal 
  • Accounting - Nursing 
  • Local foundations - Other planning and funding organizations 
  • Clergy - Consumer Representations 
  • Human Services Professionals 

Board membership should be balanced, including geographic, age, racial and ethnic, public/private, and professional/volunteer distribution.
