Description of Board and Responsibilities:

The Cuyahoga County Corrections Planning Board develops, implements, and operates a local community-based corrections plan and reduce the number of non-dangerous offenders committed to the state penal system and to local jails while maintaining public safety.

Qualifications:

The Board shall include an administrator of a county, multi county, municipal-county, or multi-county municipal jail or workhouse located in the county, a county commissioner of that county, a judge of the Court of Common Pleas of that county, a judge of a municipal court or county court of that county, an attorney whose practice of law primarily involves the representation of criminal defendants, the chief law enforcement officer of the largest municipal corporation located in the county, the county sheriff, one or more prosecutors, one or more representatives of the public, one of whom shall be a victim of crime, one or more additional representatives of the law enforcement community, one or more additional representatives of the judiciary, one or more additional representatives of the field or corrections, and officials from the largest municipal corporation located in the county. A majority of the members of the board shall be employed in the adult criminal justice field. At least two members of the board shall be members of the largest racial minority population, if any, in the county, and at least two other members of the board shall be women.

The Corrections Planning Board meetings are scheduled at least semi-annually at 9:30 a.m. on a Wednesday at the Justice Center Sequestered Jury Room on the 4th Floor.
