County Executive-elect Ed FitzGerald called upon county officials with hiring authority not to make personnel decisions without consulting him and the new Council before these new officials take office in January 2011.
In a letter to officials to be sent today, FitzGerald expressed concern about personnel decisions that represent the same “musical chairs” that often accompany the transition of one set of government leaders to the next. FitzGerald employed the same strategy during the period between his election as Mayor of Lakewood to the time he took office there.
“For many reasons, including budgetary concerns, ensuring a high quality workforce, and increasing public confidence in county government, these personnel decisions need to be put on hold, except in only the most urgent circumstances,” FitzGerald said.
“This is not the time to employ the ‘business as usual’ approach,” he said.
FitzGerald also announced his intention to meet personally with each appointing authority to discuss this matter and other pressing concerns regarding moving county government forward.
