County Executive-elect Ed FitzGerald announced today that his administration will require an application for all potential nominees for county boards and commissions that are selected by the County Executive. Past practice involved varied methods of selecting appointees but no standardized application procedure.
“This is another extremely important part of county government – appointing board members for everything from RTA to the Port of Cleveland to MetroHealth, and many, many more – and a fair application process is needed” said Executive-elect FitzGerald.
“In all, the County Executive has a role in appointing members of at least 50 boards and commissions, many of which are making vitally important decisions that affect our community. This is just as important as any of the other actions we are taking,” said FitzGerald.
At FitzGerald’s request, appointments scheduled for the December 2 Board of County Commissioners meeting have been held. FitzGerald also intends to work with the County Council regarding joint and coordinated appointments.
The application process for individual boards and commissions that have appointments due in the near future will be available next week on the onecuyahoga.com website. Future boards and commissions will also be advertised through this website.
