CLEVELAND — Cuyahoga County is launching the first of what will be a series of improvements to customer service by making it easier for property owners to make payments in person.
From next Monday, June 20 through Friday, July 8, Key Bank will accept property tax payments at its 60 banking locations throughout Cuyahoga County. Also, as an added convenience, Cuyahoga County government has made drop boxes available for tax payments at the four auto title bureau offices it operates in North Olmsted, Parma, Maple Heights and in downtown Cleveland. The boxes will be available through the July 13 deadline to make second-half tax payments.
Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald said these improvements are just the first steps in what will be an ongoing effort to make county government more friendly to customers. In this case, while most people prefer to pay taxes by mail, online (at treasurer.cuyahogacounty.us) or through mortgage escrow accounts, some property owners prefer to make payments in person, particularly as the deadline nears, FitzGerald said.
“We know parking downtown can be a challenge at times,” FitzGerald said. “These additional options should make paying in person a little bit easier.”
The improvements coincide with the second-half of the property tax billing cycle in Cuyahoga County. Second-half bills begin arriving in the mail this week; payment is due by midnight on July 13, 2011. Payments made after the deadline are subject to a penalty of up to 10 percent. For more information, or to discuss a payment plan, call (216) 443-7420 to speak with a taxpayer service representative.
Key Bank will accept payments at its branches by check or in cash, although a $6 fee will apply to convert cash payments to cashier’s check. Only checks will be accepted at the auto title bureau drop boxes.
Payments can also be made in cash, by check or by credit card (a convenience fee applies) at the county treasurer’s main office in the County Administration Building at 1219 Ontario St.
The treasurer’s main office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hours vary at Key Bank branches and at the county’s auto title bureau offices. To locate a Key Bank branch, visit www.key.com. The auto title bureau offices are located at 1261 Superior Ave. in Cleveland; 5069 Great Northern Plaza in North Olmsted; 12100 Snow Road, Suite 15, in Parma; and 21100 Southgate Park Blvd, Suite 101, in Maple Heights.
