CLEVELAND –Highly motivated graduate students and undergraduates eager to gain exposure to the inner‐workings of local government are encouraged to apply to the 2nd annual Cuyahoga County Public Policy Fellowship Program.
“This is a phenomenal opportunity for aspiring public servants to have a real impact on shaping public policy in our region,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald. “The ideas that young people have are critical to ensure that our government continues to remain innovative in tackling today’s complex problems.”
The summer fellowship program also aligns closely with some of the key principles of the Western Reserve Plan announced earlier this month during the State of the County address. Specifically, the program will help with branding the County as a vibrant place for younger generations as well as aid in creating a culture within county government which implements nationally recognized good government practices and innovations.
Students chosen to serve as fellows will work directly with the staff of the CountyExecutive on budget issues, legislative matters and other areas of county government. The program will begin on June 4, 2012 and end on August 10, 2012.
Summer fellows will participate in the following areas of county government: Operations and public works, communications and new media, regional collaboration, health and human services, economic development, the county’s Law Department, public finance, and CountyStat. Participants will receive a $2,000 stipend for the summer.
Students will also participate in various civic engagement and service‐learning opportunities throughout the Greater Cleveland area.
