FitzGerald Announces Up to 2000 Summer Jobs to be Available to Youth in Cuyahoga County

CLEVELAND – County Executive Ed FitzGerald and the Cuyahoga County’s Office of Health and Human Services is pleased to announce that the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services has made $3.5 million dollars available to implement a summer youth employment program for the Summer of 2012. These funds will enable Cuyahoga County to once again provide a summer youth program that will assist low income eligible youth between the ages of 14-24 to gain valuable work experience while earning a paycheck. Summer employment programs offer the opportunity for youth to learn and practice workplace skills, develop a work history and have a current reference from an employer.
County Executive FitzGerald said the funding “provides a large scale opportunity for young people in Cuyahoga County to make the most of their summer and gain valuable experience for the future.”
The county’s Department of Employment & Family Services in collaboration with the Cleveland/Cuyahoga County Workforce Investment Board’s Employment Connection will be responsible for implementation of the summer youth program and expects to serve up to 2000 youth earning at least the minimum wage.
