Cuyahoga County to Award New Police/Fire Communications Equipment to 13 Local Communities

CLEVELAND - In late 2011, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald released a statement supporting Cuyahoga County's commitment to becoming a nationwide example of interoperability. Since that time, Cuyahoga County has prioritized a regional approach to communications and technology, working diligently to create various levels of interoperability among the municipalities and jurisdictions, regional and state partners within Cuyahoga County.
Cuyahoga County has supported previous expenditures of general and grant funds towards the establishment of the MARCS IP Project, 25 Radio system in Cuyahoga County, the City of Cleveland's implementation of an 800 MHz APCO Project 25 Digital Radio Communications system, and the purchase of end-user 700/800MHz radio equipment.
The technology helps jurisdictions with divergent radio systems in establishing interoperability. In continuing with the County's goal of helping communities, the Southwest Regional Network Council of Governments has been awarded 82 portable radios and chargers in the amount of $210,055.30. These radios will go to the following departments on May 2, 2013:
