CLEVELAND – Congress came to an agreement today that would provide funding flexibility to avoid the closure of 149 federal air traffic towers through the remainder of the fiscal year. Cuyahoga County Executive FitzGerald supports the compromise as a critical step in the right direction but strongly urges the FAA to commit to use these available funds to support all 149 federal air traffic towers affected by sequestration.
"Cuyahoga County has been one of the leading advocates in the nation against the FAA’s decision to close federal air traffic towers due to sequestration” said County Executive Ed FitzGerald. “We are glad to see that Congress heard the concerns from aviation experts and community leaders across the country who expressed the dire impact of the closures on safety and on overall air traffic. We ask the FAA to now make a strong commitment to fully fund all federal air traffic towers in this fiscal year and beyond.”
