$2.5 Million Pledged to Shared Services Efforts

Cuyahoga County – Cuyahoga County awarded the Chagrin Valley Dispatch Center $330,000 toward consolidation efforts of Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) and upgrades. The award was recommended by the 9‐1‐1 Consolidation Shared Service Fund Review Committee and passed by County
Council on September 10, 2013.

The Chagrin Valley Dispatch includes the following agencies:

• Bentleyville PD
• Chagrin Falls PD and FD
• Chagrin Falls Township PD
• Hunting Valley PD
• Moreland Hills PD
• Orange Village PD and FD
• South Russell PD (Geauga County)
• Woodmere PD and FD
• Chagrin Falls Suburban FD (which serves Bentleyville, Chagrin Falls Township, Hunting Valley, Moreland Hills, and South Russell)

County Executive Ed FitzGerald has pledged $2.5 million to encourage the county’s 45 dispatch centers to
consolidate. He aims to have just five regional 9‐1‐1 hubs by 2023.

“Cuyahoga County is committed to working with communities to develop the most robust and responsive
9‐1‐1 system countywide,” said County Executive Ed FitzGerald. “This commitment is part of my administration’s continued support for public safety professionals, regional collaboration, and foremost, the safety and security of our citizens.”

Councilman Mike Gallagher said, “This is the first step in the consolidation of centers. We look forward to the next step in this process to better serve Cuyahoga County.”

Chagrin Valley Dispatch Center is reducing the current number of PSAPs by two. One of these consolidations occurred in August 2013 with Gates Mills, and the second is slated for the first quarter of 2014 with Highland Hills.

Construction is currently underway for the new center in the basement of the Bedford Medical Campus and is expected to be completed by the end of the September 2013. The Chagrin Valley Council of Governments entered into a partnership with University Hospitals for the lease. This Chagrin Valley Dispatch Center has room for expansion, which allows for future consolidations.
