6,500 Cuyahoga County residents losing benefits this month as Speaker Boehner keeps House in recess

CLEVELAND - Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald issued the following statement today:

"As Ohio's economy continues its struggles, it is shameful that Speaker Boehner has decided to keep the House in its third week of recess at the same time that so many middle class families, including 6,500 men and women right here in Cuyahoga County, are losing access to federal unemployment assistance. This is completely unacceptable, especially for a state that now ranks fifth from the bottom in jobs growth - with Ohio continuing to lag behind the rest of our country, Speaker Boehner needs to stop asking everyday men and women to sacrifice even more just because Washington won't do its job. Instead, he should act swiftly to extend these crucial benefits that would provide financial security for unemployed Ohioans, protect those who are already working, and help begin putting our state back on the right track."
