CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald today announced that the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Office was awarded the “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
“I applaud Cuyahoga County Fiscal Officer Mark Parks and the entire Fiscal Office on winning such a significant award and acknowledgment of the valuable, effective services they provide our constituents,” said FitzGerald. “Since 2011, this administration has made government smaller and more efficient for taxpayers in every corner of Cuyahoga County, and I am grateful that the Government Finance Officers Association has chosen to recognize this incredible progress.”
GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (CAFR Program) in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
“Every day, the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Office provides residents with important services in an open, transparent way,” added County Fiscal Officer Mark Parks. “While the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting demonstrates the hard work of our entire staff, I know that we are going to continue striving to provide the best constituent services in the State of Ohio.”
According to its website, the GFOA "represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. The GFOA’s mission is to enhance and promote the professional management of governmental financial resources by identifying, developing, and advancing fiscal strategies, policies, and practices for the public benefit. The GFOA has accepted the leadership challenge of public finance. To meet the many needs of its members, the organization provides best practice guidance, consulting, networking opportunities, publications including books, e-books, and periodicals, recognition programs, research, and training opportunities for those in the profession."
