CLEVELAND – In light of last week’s heavy flooding, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald today encouraged residents impacted by property damage to complete a valuation deduction application through the County’s Appraisal Department.
"We are always looking for ways to make sure that government works for the people it serves,” said FitzGerald. “Following these recent floods, I encourage area families to apply to ensure their tax burden is not higher than it should be."
Residents are able to complete applications for any damage that occurred earlier this year – the valuation deduction application process remains open throughout the year. Property value adjustments due to damaged or injured property could result in lower tax bills.
The Cuyahoga County Appraisal Department is responsible for discovering, listing and valuing approximately 511,231 parcels. The Ohio revised code and Ohio administrative code mandate the appraisal department to conduct a reappraisal every six years, an update every three years and annual valuation of improvements based upon building permits received from each city annually.
Residents interested in seeking a reappraisal of damaged property should complete an application at http://fiscalofficer.cuyahogacounty.us/en-US/application-damaged-property.aspx
