CLEVELAND - Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald issued the following statement after the Cuyahoga County Council's Committee of the Whole voted 8 to 3 to approve the Cuyahoga County Voting Rights Law - legislation he introduced last month to protect access to mail ballots in the face of new statewide restrictions:

"I thank the members of the Cuyahoga County Council who stood up today to advance this important legislation today and protect voting rights here in Cuyahoga County. I am grateful for their support, as well as the encouragement we have received from advocates both here in Cuyahoga County and across our state who are standing with us to protect voting rights. Although Governor Kasich and Secretary Husted have doubled down on their efforts to restrict ballot access, I am looking forward to continuing this fight to ensure that every Ohioan can exercise their right to vote this November."
