Cuyahoga County to Hold Public Hearing on Inclusion of Minority and Female-Owned Businesses

CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald joined members of County Council today to announce a public hearing that will be held Monday, September 15th, from 5pm to 7pm at the Cuyahoga County Council Chambers (2079 East 9th Street, 4th Floor) to gather the testimonies of business owners and community members on access to procurement opportunities for minority and female-owned businesses.

“It is critical that minority and female-owned businesses have equal opportunities to bid on contracts that help create jobs, expand operations, and strengthen our local economy here in Cuyahoga County,” said FitzGerald. “This public hearing will allow businesses the opportunity to come forward, express concerns and offer suggestions on how minority and female-owned businesses can succeed as we move forward.”

All local business owners and community members are invited to attend the public hearing and are encouraged to speak candidly about their experiences doing business or bidding with Cuyahoga County.  The public hearing is to solicit both positive feedback and areas of concern for the County’s ongoing disparity study – the firm Griffin & Strong, P.C. is conducting qualitative analyses for the study.

Cuyahoga County Councilman Pernel Jones, Jr., explained, “This hearing is a crucial aspect of Griffin & Strong’s analysis of the County’s business practices.  Policy may very well be impacted by what is said at this hearing so we really want as many local business owners and community members to come and voice their opinions as possible”.

The firm of Euquant has also conducted statistical analyses for the disparity study.  Over the next few months, Euquant and Griffin & Strong will complete the study, present overall findings, and provide a series of policy recommendations.

Griffin & Strong, P.C. is an Atlanta, GA based law and public policy consulting firm that specializes in disparity studies and other supplier diversity consulting. The firm can be contacted via email at cuyahoga@gspclaw.com.
