CLEVELAND – Following today's decision to withdraw Cleveland from consideration to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald threw his support behind Columbus, Ohio's convention bid and issued the following statement:
“With Ohio expected to once again play a pivotal role in the next presidential election, it seems fitting that we should have the opportunity to showcase two of our cities for the rest of the country. It has been 80 years since Cleveland last hosted a major national political convention, and I believe the time has come for Columbus to have the same opportunity. I am thrilled to have played a role in bringing the 2016 Republican National Convention here to Cleveland, and I will do everything I can in the months ahead to ensure that the next President of the United States is nominated at the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Columbus.”
