CLEVELAND – After voting rights advocates motioned for a preliminary injunction to restore early voting on multiple Sundays and weekday evenings, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald issued the following statement today:
“I applaud the NAACP, ACLU, League of Women Voters, and the other advocates who have stood up to demand an immediate injunction restoring early voting opportunities during evening hours and weekends so that all Ohioans can make their voices heard this November. In addition, I have directed the Cuyahoga County Law Department to immediately begin preparing an amicus brief that will be filed within one week to support this request for an injunction. Although it is unfortunate that this is now the fourth time since 2011 that Cuyahoga County has had to take action to protect its citizens’ voting rights, we will do everything we can to defend these rights once again. I remain hopeful that the U.S. District Court will take swift action to ensure we protect access to the ballot here in Ohio.”
