The Explorer Program is a volunteer partnership between youths in our community and law enforcement. The explorers, which range in age from 14 to 21, receive extensive training in an academy setting and are able to participate in community affairs and non-hazardous law enforcement activities. The program is great for those youth considering a future career in law enforcement or those who just want to get involved and help out. The program is administered by off-duty Sheriff’s Department personnel.
Classes include, but are not limited to, the following areas: K-9 Handling, Court Procedures, Fingerprinting, Handcuffing Techniques, Report Writing, Patrol and Traffic Techniques, and First Aid and CPR.
The Sheriff’s Department will hold an annual recruitment Open House in October 2015. At the Open House, enrollment and interviews are conducted. The Explorers Program is sanctioned, insured, and follows the guidelines and rules set forth by the Boy Scouts of America.
For more information on joining the Explorer Program, please contact Detective Nicholas Riegelmayer at (216) 443-6000.
