3 families finalized adoptions for 8 children

Cleveland, OH – Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish and Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Administrator Thomas Pristow kicked-off National Adoption Month celebrating three families that finalized their adoptions today.

“I commend the parents for their kindness to step forward and provide the nurture, love, and support that each child deserves”, said County Executive Budish. “And I appreciate the children’s courage as they spent many days, weeks and sometimes years in foster care waiting for this one day.”

Cuyahoga County Probate Court Judge Laura J. Gallagher and Magistrate Roseanne Hilow officiated the ceremonious occasion for eight children and the newly formed families that will now get to spend the Thanksgiving Holiday together.

“Adoption month is an opportunity for us to celebrate the new family bonds already formed through adoption”, said DCFS Administrator Thomas Pristow.  “Adoption month is also a challenge.  We have to bring attention to children and teens who are still waiting; waiting for the love, support and encouragement that we all need throughout our lives.”

Division of Children of Family Services leadership unveiled the 2016 adoption calendar featuring candid photos of children currently in DCFS custody and available for adoption.  These calendars are available at all DCFS service center agencies.

National adoption month is a collective effort to raise awareness of the over 600 children in Cuyahoga County foster care waiting to find permanent, loving families. This annual event has made the dreams of thousands of children come true by working with policymakers, practitioners and advocates to finalize adoptions and create and celebrate adoptive families.

In Cuyahoga County, there are 1,836 children in foster care and over 600 of them are available for adoption.  For more information on how to become a foster or adoptive parent, please visit online at cfs.cuyahogacounty.us or call 216-881-5775.
