CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Deputy Director of Sustainability Shanelle Smith has been selected by Midwest Energy News to its 40 Under 40 list for 2015.

“I am thrilled with this great and deserved award for Shanelle Smith. Shanelle works hard and effectively every single day to help clean up the energy grid in Cuyahoga County and make the county and the world a better place to live,” said Mike Foley, Director, Department of Sustainability. “She truly embodies the millennial ethic of doing good with a positive outlook on what life should be like. We’re lucky to have her working for us at the County”.

Smith was one of more than one hundred nominees this year. As the Deputy Director of Sustainability, Shanelle brings an innovative approach to partnerships from business, labor, finance, environmentalism and local governments. Shanelle manages innovative public/private/community efforts to build financially sustainable, socially equitable and an environmentally protective economy through implementation of Cuyahoga County’s Clean Energy Finance Hub.

Midwest Energy News' 40 Under 40 award program highlights Midwest-based leaders and innovators from all sectors —industry, government, regulatory, business, academic, and advocacy for their work in accelerating America’s transition to a clean energy economy.
