Cleveland, Ohio – Cuyahoga County’s Department of Sustainability announces Sustainable Cuyahoga: A toolkit of recommended best practices for communities in Cuyahoga County. The toolkit, developed in partnership with the GreenCityBlueLake Institute of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, reflects best practices from around Northeast Ohio regarding actions communities can take to become more sustainable. The Sustainable Cuyahoga toolkit supports one of the county’s main priorities; to provide resources and best practices for all 59 municipalities.

"This toolkit represents the latest and greatest thinking regarding environmental and sustainability planning for local governments. It also recognizes that we have a lot of smart people in Cuyahoga County who are great resources and are willing to be called upon for assistance," said Mike Foley, Director of Cuyahoga County Department of Sustainability.

The toolkit includes useful recommendations for public officials to learn about sustainability issues, get help from local experts, and take action. It is also intended to be a resource for citizens who want to work with local government officials to improve their communities.

"We conducted extensive research and worked with local issue experts to compile the best thinking about things cities can do to be more sustainable," said David Beach, Director of GreenCityBlueLake Institute at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. "We are excited to have partnered with the Cuyahoga County Department of Sustainability to create best practices for local governments. We think it will be a valuable resource for communities throughout Cuyahoga County."

The toolkit is available online at http://executive.cuyahogacounty.us/en-US/Sustainable-Cuyahoga.aspx. It will be updated regularly as new information becomes available.

The Sustainable Cuyahoga Toolkit was made possible by funding from The George Gund Foundation, and the Department of Sustainability.
