Empower Gas & Electric will offer citizens a free, 1-hour energy efficiency assessment to determine if that home will save energy and money through new insulation, lighting, a smart thermostat and other low-cost high savings measures. Homeowners will be presented with a proposal to install improvements.
"Energy efficiency is for everyone – businesses, homeowners, and renters too," said Cuyahoga County Department of Sustainability Director Mike Foley. "By partnering with Empower Gas & Electric, the county can help more people improve their homes and lower bills."
David Milenthal, CEO of Empower Gas & Electric, explained the program in more detail:
"Cuyahoga County’s HUB financing program is already expanding energy efficiency in the commercial sector in Northeast Ohio," Milenthal said. "Now the County is making its mark with residential customers, offering energy efficiency support to all customers."
The Empower program also targets and works with landlords and renters of all incomes. Interested landlords will receive improved buildings, higher property values, and more comfortable and marketable properties. Empower’s work with landlords makes energy efficiency accessible to renters, who would otherwise not be targets for energy efficiency improvement.
Typical Empower home improvement customers receive the following improvements:
