2017 Municipal Grant and Storefront Projects

“During a time of declining revenues for our communities, the Community Development Block Grant program provides needed capital for community reinvestment allowing us to work together to sustain and develop vibrant communities,” said Budish.
The Municipal Grant Program is a competitive grant program that makes awards up to $150,000 for projects that will strengthen cities and improve the quality of life for residents.
The Competitive Storefront Renovation Program provides grant funding on a competitive basis for strategic, geographically focused programs for revitalization of commercial, historic or town center areas with awards up to $50,000.
Funded by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) dollars, 51 of the county’s 58 communities are eligible to apply to both the Municipal Grant and Storefront Program. Grant funding obligates both the county and grant awardees to meet certain objectives, and adhere to specific requirements as prescribed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant funding.
This program is managed by the Cuyahoga County Department of Development, who evaluates applications from communities across the county.
“Our annual CDBG awards are based on a competitive process and are an essential tool for revitalizing county neighborhoods---a key component of our economic development strategy for Cuyahoga County,” said Ted Carter, Cuyahoga County Chief Economic Development & Business Officer.
This year’s awarded projects include construction on streets, sewer repair, sidewalk repair, ADA improvements, community center enhancements, playground improvements and storefront renovation.
The recommended communities for the Municipal Grant awards will be presented to the Cuyahoga County Council on February 28, 2017. The Storefront awards will be presented to the Cuyahoga County Board of Control.

A total of $1.65 Million in recommendations to 12 Communities
