CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Sheriff Clifford Pinkney today announced the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department is now accepting applications for the 2nd Annual Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department Citizens Academy.

“We’ve listened to the feedback from the participants in our inaugural citizens academy, and we’re pleased to bring back the Sheriff’s Department Citizens Academy in 2017,” said Sheriff Pinkney. “We’ve extended the program in order to incorporate more activities and opportunities to educate our residents on our role in law enforcement.”

The academy has been extended from 8-weeks to 10-weeks in an effort to bring new activities into the program. Beginning March 22nd, the academy will meet Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 9pm in the Justice Center. Residents can expect to participate in interactive demonstrations, lectures, and field trips that will cover the following topics:
  • Corrections
  • Crime Stoppers
  • Firearm Safety
  • Juvenile Detention
  • Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) & More

The Citizen’s Academy is free of charge and open to all eligible residents. Eligibility requirements include:
  • Resident of Cuyahoga County
  • At least 21 years of age
  • No felony convictions
  • Must pass a background check

The academy is limited to 25 residents and designed to provide a better understanding of how the Sheriff’s Department works. The program does not give any law enforcement authority to academy graduates. For more information or to download the application, please visit: https://sheriff.cuyahogacounty.us/.
