CLEVELAND - With 25 stations and 250 bikes available for public use, UHBikes, Cuyahoga County’s bikeshare system, is anticipating a busy spring and summer. May is National Bike Month, and UHBikes has been rolling out its full system to provide residents and visitors access to a sustainable, people-friendly network.

"We are thrilled about the success of UH Bikes," said Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish. "This partnership allows us to promote a great opportunity for recreation, healthy living, and transportation for our region."

As of May 1, 2,626 users have ridden 18,833 miles, burned 753,350 calories, and reduced 16,607 pounds of carbon. Out of the 2,622 all-time users, 2,522 are currently active, and a growing number – over 150 – are choosing monthly and annual membership plans.

UHBikes will celebrate the one-year anniversary of its 10-station prelaunch in July. The 250-bike system, with brand-new eight-speed red bikes, was launched in September 2016. UHBikes remained open throughout the winter and saw committed ridership despite low temperatures, proving that year-round alternative transportation is attractive to Clevelanders and visitors to the city.

Since September, new stations in Ohio City and University Circle as well as at Cuyahoga Community College and University Hospitals have been installed, bringing the total number of available stations to 25. Stations at Cleveland State University, Cleveland Public Library’s Sterling branch, and Case Western Reserve University will be installed throughout the spring and summer.

"Biking is healthy, active and highly social – in short, a great way to help create more livable and connected communities, both for residents and visitors,"
said Sarah O’Keeffe, Sustainability Manager for University Hospitals, "UH is pleased that the UHBikes bike share system continues to expand as more individuals become aware of its benefits, both for their own health and the health of our environment."

"We are so excited to see the growth of UHBikes, which allows residents and visitors to ride around the city,"
says Jacob VanSickle, executive director of Bike Cleveland. "National Bike Month, especially, is a great time to try bikeshare."

UHBikes offers pay-as-you-go and prepaid memberships, which charge users for the amount of time they ride the bikes. Monthly ($15/month, with a three-month commitment), annual ($10/month with a yearly commitment), and student memberships ($8/month with a .edu address) are also available, and include up to 60 minutes of free ride time per day. Users can lock bikes to any public bike rack for a $2 convenience charge. UHBikes also offers employer membership packages. Contact info@uhbikes.com to learn more.
