CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County and Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) today announced a Workforce Development Alliance partnership that provides residents free training for in-demand jobs.

The Workforce Development Alliance will offer scholarships to income-eligible residents for enrollment in fast-track training programs at Tri-C. The initiative also includes job-placement assistance for graduates.

Tri-C will award 200 student scholarships during the project’s pilot phase, which targets training programs for careers as a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA), Patient Access Specialist or truck driver. Additional training programs may be included in 2018.

“To make Cuyahoga County a prosperous and thriving region, we know it is crucial to give our residents a career path to upward mobility,” said Armond Budish, Cuyahoga County Executive. “This program — with its focus on helping our Health and Human Services clients become trained in employment sectors where we know there are available jobs — is a practical, impactful approach to the skills gap in our community and to county residents’ need for good jobs.”

The alliance between the county and College expands access to Tri-C’s award-winning workforce programs and opens doors to jobs with sustainable wages, strengthening families and the community.

“The skills training offered at Tri-C creates opportunities for a better future,” said Alex Johnson, Tri-C president. “This partnership with Cuyahoga County will open those opportunities to many more people in our community.”
