Cuyahoga County Continues to Provide Funding to Eliminate Vacant and Blighted Properties

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – The Cuyahoga County Board of Control yesterday approved the extension of funding for six cities, including Mayfield Heights, Richmond Heights, Shaker Heights, University Heights, Warrensville Heights and the Village of Bratenahl to demolish blighted structures. Also approved was the third award for the City of South Euclid, providing $100,000 in funding for ten more structures to be demolished within the city.
“The County is committed to eliminating vacancy and blight in our communities,” said County Executive Armond Budish. “We know that demolition has a positive effect on neighboring property values and helps stabilize communities. Continuing to fund demolition projects throughout our municipalities helps those communities and their residents thrive.”
Since the Property Demolition Program began in Spring of 2015, Cuyahoga County has awarded $32.6 million to 26 municipalities throughout the County. Approximately 1,275 structures have come down since the program began with over 140 more having proceed orders to take them down within the next few months.
