Cuyahoga County, OH – County Executive Armond Budish issued the following statement:
“The redistricting plan that our Ohio state lawmakers are considering putting on the May ballot allows them to retain control and continue the hyper-partisan process of drawing congressional districts.
The current practice has resulted in politically drawn lines that end up disenfranchising voters and skewing results.
I urge our lawmakers to instead support the citizen-led coalition of the Ohio NAACP, Common Cause Ohio and the League of Women Voters of Ohio who have been gathering signatures to put a proposal before the voters in November. This coalition proposes the establishment of an independent special commission, not controlled by the politicians themselves, to draw fair and representative districts.”
