National Consumer Protection Week

Cuyahoga County, OH – National Consumer Protection Week is March 4-10, providing Cuyahoga County residents with opportunities to learn how to protect themselves and their families from common scams.
“Scams take advantage of people at vulnerable moments in their lives,” said Sheryl Harris, Cuyahoga County Director of Consumer Affairs. “The more you learn about how and why scams work, the more likely you are to recognize any scam, even one that’s relatively new.”
The week’s events range from one-on-one consumer advice and call-ins to community education forums. All are free and open to the public. They include:

Call in for one-on-one advice from consumer experts from Cleveland Consumer Action Network member agencies, including the Federal Trade Commission, Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Cuyahoga County Consumer Affairs, Better Business Bureau Serving Greater Cleveland, Legal Aid, Cleveland Consumer Affairs, Apprisen, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, ProSeniors and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
Call-in numbers will be broadcast on Channel 3 during the event.

A League of Women Voters forum moderated by Teresa Dixon-Murray of the Plain Dealer, with panelists from the Federal Trade Commission, Cuyahoga County Consumer Affairs and Better Business Bureau.
