CUYAHOGA COUNTY – Cuyahoga County has approved $325,000 in additional funding to the EITC Coalition, led by Enterprise Community Partners, to continue providing free tax preparation assistance to low and moderate income families and financial education. Cuyahoga County Job and Family Services has funded the EITC Coalition since its inception in 2004 and has helped low-income families save over $48 million by avoiding tax preparation fees and exorbitant refund anticipation product charges.

The program offers free tax help to families and individuals who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.

Last year in Cuyahoga County, the EITC Coalition served over 13,000 people and brought back more than $20 million to the community.

The EITC Coalition is a volunteer driven program. Free training is available to become an IRS certified tax preparer for community members who want to volunteer to prepare taxes.

Tax returns are prepared and e-filed for free by IRS-certified tax preparation volunteers, who also help taxpayers verify if they qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit, and/or other federal benefits.
