Office of Emergency Management Participates in National Night Out
The department will distribute free gun locks during three separate events
Cleveland— Every year, Law Enforcement Agencies from across the country commemorate the National Night Out (NNO) initiative. The NNO events are annual community-building campaigns that can foster the relationships between law enforcement and the community or communities that they serve and protect.
The Cuyahoga County Office of Emergency Management (CCOEM) will be in attendance at three separate National Night Out events and will be distributing a limited number of firearm locks. The firearm locks were given to the CCOEM by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office and Metrohealth as part of the Project ChildSafe initiative. For those not able to attend Tuesday who are still interested in obtaining a gun lock, please call your local Police Department.
"Strong relationships and mutual trust amongst public safety professionals and the communities they serve is integral to effective policing and maintaining a safe environment for everyone,” said Safety and Protection Chief Brandy Carney.
“Night Out against crime is a tremendous opportunity for the community and Law Enforcement to come together for a common goal, and that is to put an end to crime in our neighborhoods,” said Sheriff Cliff Pinkney. “The men and women at the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office look forward to participating in this event every year.”
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August. Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.
