Funding for Temporary Housing and Substance Abuse Treatment Services for Homeless Men

CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County is continuing its efforts to provide temporary housing and Alcohol and Other Drug treatment for homeless men. The County’s Board of Control approved this week a $70,000 contract amendment with Stella Maris, bringing the total contract amount to $265,000. Stella Maris provides temporary housing for homeless men referred through the County’s Coordinated Entry System. While staying at Stella Maris, men are able to participate in Intensive Outpatient Treatment services and are assisted with access to housing, sustainable income and recovery support.
“I am proud to partner with Stella Maris on this important initiative,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish. “It is crucial that Cuyahoga County continues to collaborate with substance abuse treatment and homeless service providers to promote the recovery and well-being of those in our community seeking treatment.”
This past year, Stella Maris housed 107 unduplicated adult males with 88 residents exiting during this period. Of those who exited, 86 percent exited to permanent housing and 87 percent had increased income from entry to exit. The supportive-housing facility provides shelter to chronically homeless adult males, veterans and youth, 96 percent of whom presented with alcohol and/or drug abuse issues at entry. Thirty-seven percent entered temporary housing from a detox center or substance abuse treatment facility.
