Cuyahoga County Seeking Public Comment on Memphis Road Reconstruction Project in City of Brooklyn

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH — The Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works has secured funding for a future bridge and roadway reconstruction project on Memphis Road in the City of Brooklyn. The proposed project is in the design stages of development and public input is requested at this time.
This project involves the replacement of the bridge carrying Memphis Road over CSX Railroad and the realignment of the approach roadway on both sides of the structure. The purpose of this project is to replace the structurally deficient bridge and improve roadway geometrics.
The proposed improvements will result in the acquisition of temporary and permanent right-of-way from five property owners. Temporary right-of-way will be necessary for access to the bridge and railroad property below. Permanent right-of-way acquisition is necessary due to current bridge standards requiring a wider bridge that extends past the existing right-of-way.
Construction of this estimated $5 million project is expected to begin in the summer of 2020 and end in the winter of 2021.
The project development team is working on plans to minimize traffic delays and detours by splitting construction activities into two phases. One lane of traffic in each direction will be open during each phase. The south side of the road and bridge will be constructed in the first phase and then the north side will be completed in the second phase.
