CLEVELAND – The Cuyahoga County Department of Workforce Development is partnering with University Hospitals for the implementation of a customized training program. Ohio Means Jobs|Cleveland-Cuyahoga County (OMJ|CC) will administer services under this partnership agreement. University Hospitals will implement three groups of the Step Up to Patient Care Nursing Assistant model which will include technical training. University Hospitals anticipates hiring thirty of the successful trainees. OMJ|CC is providing $130,760 of federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act funds, while University Hospitals is providing $68,000 to support this endeavor.
The federal funding is awarded to the County through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. Cuyahoga County is the fiscal agent approving the contracted services.
“One of our top priorities is to ensure every resident has the opportunity to get on a path to upward income mobility and career advancement,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish. “Through this program, individuals will receive training through NewBridge and Towards Employment, at no cost to them, and case management services through one year of employment so that they can continue on a pathway to higher wage careers.”
“University Hospitals is grateful for the funding and recognition of its educational efforts in the community. This funding will assist with meeting a need to fill open positions but more importantly, it will help residents receive skills and education to develop an in-demand career field,” said Kim Shelnick, Vice President of Talent Acquisition at University Hospitals.
Individuals will complete a two-week job readiness and soft skills training at Towards Employment, be trained as Patient Care Nursing Assistants by NewBridge, and receive intensive career coaching from Towards Employment throughout the training period and post-placement.
“We encourage anyone who is interested in improving their skills and their career prospects to contact OMJ|CC at 216-777-8200 or OMJCC.us,” said Grace Kilbane, CEO of OMJ|CC.
