County Executive Armond Budish Responds to Federal Funding Cuts

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH
– County Executive Armond Budish announced today that he is proposing to County Council an amendment to his budget for 2020-2021 to provide $250,000 in funding for the Adoption Network.

The Network recently lost 40 percent of its budget due to cuts in federal funding.

Meanwhile, the County is experiencing some of the highest numbers of children in foster care in more than a decade. Numbers currently stand at 2,948 in custody.

“In a time when an increasing number of children are coming into our County foster care, it is critical that supportive services like the Adoption Network remain strong,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish. “We are committed to helping our children find their forever homes and the Adoption Network is a crucial partner in this work.”

Adoption Network Cleveland is a 31-year non-profit organization that fulfills the otherwise unmet needs for individuals and families impacted by adoption, kinship (individuals caring for young relatives) and foster care.

“We are incredibly thankful to Cuyahoga County Executive Budish for providing resources in this hour of need. The programs in question have deep roots in Cuyahoga County responding to the needs of some of the most vulnerable children in our community,” said Adoption Network Executive Director Betsie Norris. “At a time like this when an increasing number of children are coming into our county’s foster care system these programs are all the more critical. The Cuyahoga County Administration is clearly committed to the welfare of children and responding to the needs of children and families in our community.”
