CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH - The Cuyahoga County Justice Center Steering Committee is asking for public comment on the forthcoming corrections center site selection.
The Steering Committee is comprised of individuals from the County administration, the County and City of Cleveland Court Systems, and City of Cleveland representatives. The Committee has met frequently since March 2019 to gain updates from the hired DLR Group and Project Management Consultants, provide feedback and make critical determinations for the future of the Justice Center.
In November 2020, the Steering Committee determined that it would proceed with the development of a new Corrections Center to be located outside of the Cleveland Downtown core. This new facility would replace the jail facilities currently located at the Justice Center and is part of a larger justice system reform effort.
A critical part of this process includes the selection of an appropriate site for the new facility. Because it is important for the public to be informed and involved in the process, the Steering Committee is providing a two-week public comment period for residents to view a brief presentation describing the scope of what will be built and the site selection process. The public can then complete an online survey providing their thoughts, concerns and suggestions.
The presentation and survey can be found on the County Department of Public Works website. The public comment period will be open until March 22 at midnight.
