Cuyahoga County Holds 2021 Virtual Reentry Awareness Week

County Residents Who Can Open Their Hearts and Homes Should Consider Adopting
CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH - The Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry and its community partners will hold their fourth annual Reentry Awareness Week virtually. The week will highlight the stories of returning citizens, social and legislative barriers affecting them and their families, and how community members can become involved to ensure better outcomes for individuals leaving incarceration. All virtual events will be held from Monday, April 26 to Friday, April 30, 2021.
“As we commence the fourth year of Virtual Reentry Awareness Week, I would like to thank the Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry and its community partners for bringing attention to the needs of individuals directly impacted by the criminal justice system,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish. “As these individuals return home from incarceration it is both important to support their reentry and focus our attention on removing barriers that interfere with their success. The week’s events highlight those barriers and seek to celebrate all the hard-fought accomplishments of returning citizens, including the improvement of housing and employment options or the start of new businesses.”
“Over the last four years, the Office of Reentry has worked with the community and the Greater Cleveland Reentry Leadership Coalition to make Reentry Awareness Week a successful venture,” said Simeon Best, Interim Director of the Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry. “As the new interim director, I look forward to educating our community about the post-incarceration contributions of returning citizens and working with dozens of our community partners to hold virtual lunch and learn workshops, a virtual cash mob and an entrepreneurial bootcamp for individuals under supervised release.”

The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and Cleveland Public Library are hosting a Facebook LIVE session on record sealing. Time: 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. – Closed Event
The Economic Community Development Institute (ECDI), PCs for People, OhioMeansJobs | Cleveland-Cuyahoga County (OMJCC), Brick House Realty, Oriana House, North Star Recovery Resource Center, Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, and the Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry are hosting a small business, real estate, and wealth-building seminar for a captive audience, who are under housing supervision.
Facebook Live – Virtual Cash Mob Interview Tour
Time: 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, ECDI, Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry, and the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office are hosting a virtual cash mob on ECDI’s Facebook Live to feature live interviews with business owners who are returning citizens. Viewers can learn how to patronize their services or receive gift cards to share with family members and friends.

Resource Fair at North Star Reentry Resource Center
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Employment services, COVID-19 vaccine information and fresh food supplies will be available for returning citizens at the North Star Reentry Resource Center Fair on Friday, April 30. For more information about the fair, please email katrice.williams@jfs.ohio.gov or call (216) 881-5440.
The Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry is a funder for direct services provided to returning citizens and a coordinating agency for reentry resources and services across the county. As a coordinating agency, the office is a convener and a collaborator with other program providers and public and private entities working with returning citizens.
