$800,000 in additional funding to provide services for more older adults

– Now, more older adults in Cuyahoga County can access services to help them live independently. The County Council recently approved a request from the Division of Senior and Adult Services (DSAS) to amend its contract with partners who provide services through its Options for Independent Living Program. The program was expanded by $800,000 through December of 2021, to allow for more of the County’s older adults and adults with disabilities to be served.

“We know our seniors want to continue living in their homes as they age, but sometimes they need a little help to do that,” said County Executive Armond Budish. “DSAS’ Options for Independent Living Program provides that extra support that allows them to remain safe and independent in their homes and connected to their communities.”

Twenty-two contracted partners received additional funding to provide more clients with services like homemaking, meal delivery, personal care and medical transport. Last year, the program provided 270,352 home delivered meals, 65,900 hours of homemaking, 9,363 hours of personal care and 7,011 medical transport trips. The program also provided emergency response systems, grab bar installation and chore services.

“The Options program served nearly 2,000 people in 2020, an increase from less than 1,700 individuals served in 2019,” said Tracey Mason, administrator for the Division of Senior and Adult Services. “Demand for the program continues to grow, as more County residents reach the age of 60 and desire services to help them remain independent in their homes.”

The Options for Independent Living Program is open to County residents 60 years of age or older or aged 18-59 living with a disability. Fees are based on a sliding scale determined by income. For more information on Options, or any of DSAS’ programs, contact 216-420-6700 or visit
