Cuyahoga County, Ohio – C. Ellen Connally, President of the Cuyahoga County Council announced today that the Council will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. to vote on the confirmation of Dr. Thomas Gilson to be the County’s first Medical Examiner. At Dr. Gilson’s confirmation hearing earlier this week, Council referred the appointment for a formal vote, but Council’s next regularly scheduled meeting will not be held until June 14, 2011. This Special Meeting will allow the County Executive to facilitate a prompt transfer of powers in the Medical Examiner’s office. “Recognizing that the Coroner’s office has been the subject of some scrutiny and in light of recent layoffs there, Council feels that it is important to install stable leadership as soon as possible,” said Ms. Connally.
