Cuyahoga County, Ohio – Cuyahoga County Council will hold hearings beginning next week for the 2011 midyear budget revision process. This midyear budget process will allow the County to factor in the following for 2011:

• changes
  • resulting from the new government structure
  • in revenue and spending trends
  • resulting from adoption of the state’s biennial operating budget
• initial implementation of new initiatives of the County Executive and County Council; and
• advance planning for fiscal years 2012 and 2013, which are expected to present serious budget challenges

The Cuyahoga County Commissioners adopted the current budget in late 2010, and anticipated some necessary expenditures of the new Executive-Council form of government. Six months into operations, Council is in better position to anticipate the expenses required for the charter government in its initial year.

The Finance and Budgeting Committee and the Health, Human Services, and Aging Committee will each hold hearings. All hearings are open to the public, with time provided for public comment. Hearings will be held in the County Council Chambers on the first floor of the Justice Center.

Following is the anticipated schedule:

• Tuesday, June 28, 4 PM: Overview presentation of the 2011 midyear budget at Council's Work Session.
• Wednesday, June 29, 10AM: Finance & Budgeting Committee Hearing
• Thursday, June 30, 1 PM: Health & Human Services Committee Hearing
• Wednesday, July 6, 10 AM: Finance & Budgeting Committee Hearing
• Thursday, July 7, 1 PM: Health & Human Services Committee Hearing
• Wednesday, July 13, 10 AM: Finance & Budgeting Committee Hearing
• Thursday, July 14, 1 PM: Health & Human Services Committee Hearing
• Monday, July 18, 1 PM: Finance & Budgeting Committee Hearing
• Wednesday, July 20, 10 AM: Finance & Budgeting Committee Hearing, completing committee recommendation
• Tuesday, July 26, 6 PM: County Council Meeting, adoption of midyear 2011 Budget Revision
