Decides to Not Seek Re-election to County Council Seat

Four years ago, I was elected to the Cuyahoga County Council and appointed by my colleagues to lead the first-ever Council. I have had the privilege of serving the public over the past 30 years, and I take great pride in the many accomplishments of County Council.

On County Council, we worked in a bi-partisan manner to restore the public's confidence in county government. We were successful in passing county charter changes on the ballot last year, and this year County Council led the effort and successful passage of the Health and Human Service levy. We were able to form a permanent and lasting new legislative body for Cuyahoga County that will stand equal to the other branches of government.

With the knowledge that County Council is strong and moving forward, I have made the difficult decision to not seek reelection to my council seat. I have been in public life since I was first elected in 1979 to the Cleveland Municipal Court. I will continue, however, to serve on the Ohio Historical Society Board as part of my deep interest in Ohio history. I will also continue to travel and lecture on the Kennedy assassination.

I want to publicly thank all those who have been supportive of my career and in particular I want to thank members of County Council and our staff. I am fortunate to have served many years as a public official. Now I plan to retire to my books and lectures.

Thank you.
