Cuyahoga County Seeking to Lease New Space for Board of Elections, Health and Human Services
Move would enhance collaboration and efficiency among County agencies and departments
CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne’s plan for improved County service delivery, better voting access, and increased efficiency is taking shape.
Cuyahoga County is seeking to enter into an agreement with Cleveland Superior LLC to lease space at 1801 Superior Avenue. The purpose is to relocate the Board of Elections to this new location because it has outgrown its current space on Euclid Avenue.
“The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections welcomes the opportunity to move operations to the 1801 Superior Avenue location,” said Anthony Perlatti, Cuyahoga County Board of Elections Director. “This location signifies a new chapter in our commitment to deliver reliable and efficient election services to Cuyahoga County voters.”
If approved by the Cuyahoga County Council, the Superior Avenue location would offer more parking, interior space for early voting queues, and improved conditions for employees. Some Health and Human Services (HHS) staff would also be relocated to that building.
Additionally, Cuyahoga County plans to renovate the Virgil E. Brown Building at 1641 Payne Avenue and sell the Jane Edna Hunter building at 3955 Euclid Avenue.
“Securing a new location for the Board of Elections is a necessary step towards delivering superior services and better voting access to our residents,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne. “This move demonstrates our commitment to prioritizing the needs of our community and improving access to County services.”
The lease agreement will be introduced at the March 26 County Council meeting. The legislation is co-sponsored by Councilwoman Yvonne Conwell, who chairs the Health and Human Services Committee, Finance Committee Chair and Councilman Dale Miller and Councilman Michael Byrne, who chairs the Public Works Committee.
If approved, the lease would not exceed an annual average cost of $5.4 million over 17 years. The funding would come from the General Fund and the Health and Human Services Levy. The lease agreement is expected to begin in July.
