Know Before You Go Vote on Election Day

Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – It's Election Day, and this year, many critical races and issues are on the ballot throughout Cuyahoga County and the nation. By casting your vote, you can help shape your future, community, and the world for generations to come. Here are a few important reminders for residents preparing to cast their votes.

Know when and where to vote on Election Day:

Polls in Cuyahoga County are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections advises voters to confirm their voting location before going to the polls. Five municipalities have voting location changes for this election: Cleveland, Maple Heights, Shaker Heights, South Euclid, and North Royalton.

Residents can find their polling location by searching their address.

Know what to bring:

Bring acceptable identification that shows the voter's name and a valid expiration date. The following is an acceptable form of ID:

  • An Ohio driver license (A digital ID, such as a driver license in Apple Wallet, is not an acceptable form of photo ID for voting)
  • An Ohio state ID card
  • An interim identification form issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles
  • A U.S. passport or passport card
  • A U.S. military ID card, Ohio National Guard ID card, or U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ID card (that includes the voter's name and photograph)

If the voter's Ohio driver license or Ohio ID Card lists a former address, the voter will be allowed to cast a regular ballot if their current residential address has been updated with the Board of Elections and appears in the official poll list of registered voters for that precinct.

Residents who do not provide an acceptable ID may still cast a provisional ballot. Those voters will have four days after Election Day to present an acceptable ID to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.

Provisional Ballots:

A provisional ballot is used when a voter’s eligibility is in question. The most common reasons for voting provisionally include not updating one's address with the Board of Elections, failing to bring ID to the polls, or having requested an absentee ballot.

Provisional ballots provide election officials with time to verify the voter's eligibility. If a voter is determined to be eligible, the ballot will be counted. All valid provisional ballots will be included in the final official results.

Voter Safety:

The Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Deputies are on duty to keep polling locations safe. In collaboration with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, the Sheriff's Department has implemented a coordinated security plan across the County.

In addition, the Cuyahoga County Emergency Operations Center will be operational on Election Day, led by the County’s Office of Emergency Management and staffed by area public safety agencies. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious or illegal activity to law enforcement.
