Medical Examiner Issues Public Health Advisory
CLEVELAND – Today, Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Gilson issued a public health advisory regarding the dangers of extreme cold weather. This winter, Cuyahoga County has reported at least five deaths due to hypothermia.
“This has been a cold and snowy winter. We have already lost five people to the cold, with at least a comparable number awaiting final certification,” Dr. Gilson warned. “Vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and those with chronic mental illness, are particularly at risk, even when they are indoors without adequate heating. I urge everyone to check on their neighbors and use the County’s warming resources.”
| Winter Period (Dec-Mar) | Total Deaths |
| 2021 - 22 | 11 |
| 2022 - 23 | 12 |
