Gear Up for ‘Celebrate Trails Day’ 2025

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH -On Saturday, April 26, Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne will join Cleveland Mayor Justin M. Bibb and Cleveland Metroparks Chief Planning and Design Officer Sean McDermott to host a community bike ride and trail walk in honor of Celebrate Trails Day. The free event kicks off at 1:00 p.m., and will begin and end at Canal Basin Park.
Kicking off the walking, hiking, and biking season, Celebrate Trails Day is an annual spring celebration of America’s trails. Started by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy in 2013, the event encourages people to get out and experience the joy and impact of our nation’s trails.
“By supporting pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, we are not just building pathways, we are creating healthier, more connected communities,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne. “Celebrate Trails Day is a great opportunity for residents and riders to not only hear about new and future trail projects, but also to provide feedback on plans as they develop.”
Celebrate Trails Day is also the official kick-off of Cuyahoga County’s Bike-with-a-Mayor season. Bike-with-a-Mayor is an initiative of the Cuyahoga Greenway Partners to raise citizen awareness of the Cuyahoga Greenways Plan and inform people of trail and bikeway project opportunities within their communities.
“Celebrate Trails Day is a reminder of the incredible potential our city’s trails hold for building stronger, more vibrant communities," said Mayor Justin M. Bibb. "By prioritizing accessible, safe spaces for walking, biking, and connecting with nature, we’re not only enhancing our quality of life but also helping to create a more sustainable and equitable future for Cleveland. I encourage everyone to join us in celebrating these important spaces that bring us together and move us forward.”
“Cleveland Metroparks is proud to be part of this celebration of trails and the outdoors,” said Brian M. Zimmerman, CEO of Cleveland Metroparks. “With over 325 miles of trails, we’re committed to enhancing access, working with civic leaders and advocates across the region to create a more connected network that ensures every resident can easily access our park district and regional trail network."
This year’s event features two different route options:
- Option 1: An 8-mile bicycle loop with squad support by Slow Roll Cleveland. This route uses both trails and lower traffic roads.
- Option 2: A trail only, kid-friendly out & back route perfect for a walk or for riders looking for a route up to 3 miles.
Bike Cleveland and Slow Roll Cleveland will provide support to those participating in the ride.
- Participants are invited to fill out the required waiver online in advance.
- Helmets are strongly encouraged, and all participants are required to bring a working bicycle. The Ohio City Bicycle Co-op will be on hand to provide bike safety checks.
- After the ride or walk, participants are invited to the upper level of the Flat Iron Cafe for information about upcoming trail projects in the region.
Weather updates and/or cancellation will be posted here if necessary.
Cleveland’s Celebrate Trails Day event is a collaboration between Bike Cleveland, Canalway Partners, City of Cleveland, Cleveland Metroparks, Cuyahoga County, and Slow Roll Cleveland.
