Academy sessions begin September 18

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Gilson announced the fall dates of the popular Citizens Academy program. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office is now accepting applications for the academy, which will begin on September 18, 2025.

"The Citizens Academy is the way our agency reaches back to the public to introduce the high-quality work that their support makes possible," said Dr. Gilson. "Over a few months, our experts share their knowledge and experience in this popular program. As public funding becomes more challenging, I appreciate the backing of County Executive Chris Ronayne and the dedication of Christopher Harris and Mindy Naticchioni, who coordinate the Citizens Academy."

The academy, held at the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office, will meet Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Residents can expect to participate in lectures, case reviews, and hands-on demonstrations from doctors, scientists, and investigators. Some of the topics include:

  • Forensic Pathology
  • Toxicology
  • Death Investigation
  • Trace Evidence
  • And more

"We're excited to return for our 8th season of one of the county's most popular community programs," said Christopher Harris, External Affairs Manager for the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office. "We encourage anyone with an interest or curiosity about forensics or true crime to apply."

The Citizens Academy is free of charge and open to all eligible residents. For more information or to apply, please visit mecitizensacademy.com.

All applications should be completed and submitted to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office by August 8, 2025.
