CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne has named David Molnar as Interim Chief Building Official to lead the County’s first Division of Building Standards.

As Interim Chief Building Official, Molnar will oversee building plan review, permitting, and inspections to ensure construction and development throughout Cuyahoga County adhere to safety standards and building codes. He will also work closely with municipalities to deliver efficient, consistent, and high-quality services that help projects move forward.

“David brings a strong understanding of building operations and a commitment to public service, both of which will benefit our residents and municipal partners,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne. “His leadership will help ensure our Division of Building Standards continues to provide reliable, efficient services that support safe development across Cuyahoga County.”

Molnar brings experienced leadership to the County’s Division of Building Standards. He previously served as the Master Plans Examiner for Summit County and has held Chief Building Official roles in several municipalities, including Aurora, Medina County, and Canton. His extensive background also includes work as an architect, plans examiner, and project manager for the State of Ohio, municipalities, and private firms.

“I’m honored to step into this role and support the important work of the Cuyahoga County Division of Building Standards,” said David Molnar, interim Chief Building Official for Cuyahoga County. “My priority will be delivering responsive, high-quality services to our municipal partners while maintaining the highest standards of safety and accountability.”

The County’s Division of Building Standards will offer essential services to municipalities that rely on shared expertise and resources to manage development projects. By centralizing these functions, the County will streamline processes, ensure compliance, and support safe, sustainable growth.

“Strong leadership in the County’s Division of Building Standards is crucial for efficient operations and supporting our communities,” said Michael Chambers, Cuyahoga County Fiscal Officer. “David’s experience will further strengthen service delivery, resulting in savings to communities and residents, and ensure we continue to provide municipalities with the resources and expertise they depend on.

Molnar earned both his Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Architecture from Kent State University and his Project Manager certification from Baldwin Wallace University. He also holds certifications from FEMA Emergency Management Institute, International Code Council, and Ohio Board of Building Standards. Molnar has served on the boards of the International Code Council, Ohio Building Officials Association, ICC Midwest Region V, and the Five County Building Officials Association.
